Hair – Alopecia Areata

Alopecia areata

Alopecia areata is also known as spot baldness.

It appears as 1 to 2 or more circular or oval bald spots that vary in size on the scalp and/or beard area. This condition is due to an immune disorder. Most of the time, manifestation is related to an acute or chronically stressful period. It also has a genetic association, occurring in people with a history of family members affected similarly.

Most of the spots, if left alone, will regrow hair after several weeks or months. However, some can worsen or become permanent. The best treatment to ensure quick resolution involves steroid injections into the bald spots. It is advised that one seeks medical care as soon as possible, for a quick and informed remedy.
